Commercial refrigeration repair in Dedham
Dedham has the hardest water of any town we serve, roughly 127 parts per million, about eight times what Boston drinks. It takes no MWRA water at all. If you run an ice machine in Dedham, that single fact should shape your service plan.
Answered live, 24/7 (617) 938-5404No MWRA water. None.
Dedham is not on the MWRA system in any form. The Dedham-Westwood Water District is the sole supplier, drawing from twelve wells across three well fields in the Charles and Neponset river basins, treated at plants in Dedham and Westwood.
The most recent hardness figure published by the district, from a 2019 sample, is 127 parts per million, roughly seven and a half grains per gallon. An earlier report put the average at 132 with a maximum of 164. Sodium averages around 107 parts per million, which the district itself attributes partly to road salt storage and partly to water softening agents in the aquifer.
Put the numbers side by side. Boston, Cambridge and Brookline drink water at about one grain per gallon. Dedham runs at seven and a half. An ice machine moved from a Boston site to a Dedham site, with the same filter and the same service interval, will scale up in a fraction of the time and the operator will have no idea why.
This is the town where filtration is not an upsell, it is the difference between an ice machine lasting its design life and dying early. We size it off a reading at your machine, we set a change interval that reflects seven grains rather than one, and we tell you when scale is genuinely the cause rather than blaming it by default.
Two very different customer bases
Legacy Place off Route 1 is 675,000 square feet of open-air lifestyle center with around seventy-five tenants, anchored by a Whole Foods and holding national restaurant operators. That is rack systems, remote condensers, corporate service specifications and a store manager who reports a fault up a chain.
Dedham Square on High Street is the opposite: independent operators running self-contained reach-ins and a single walk-in, with an Albanian byrek shop, a Japanese izakaya, Mediterranean and Indian kitchens inside a few blocks. When their one unit goes down, the business stops. Different equipment, different urgency, different conversation.
Between them sits the Route 1 big-box corridor, and around them the institutional kitchens: the NewBridge on the Charles senior campus on its 162 acres, Noble and Greenough with a boarding program and a dining hall in the old Castle, and Ursuline Academy. Institutional kitchens run year-round and do not get to close for a repair.
Access
Route 1, Route 1A and I-95 all serve the town, and the Franklin Line runs three stations inside Dedham. Access is genuinely easy compared with the inner cities, which is part of why Dedham sits comfortably in our same-day zone despite the distance.
Dedham has no hospital, so the institutional refrigeration here is senior living, schools and food retail rather than clinical. If you need lab or pharmacy-grade cold storage service, that is still work we do, it is just not what Dedham is made of.
